About the author

I grew up in a family immersed in faith. I began a kid version of meditation as a child, stopping by church regularly to sit quietly and listen. Coming of age in the 60's I lost my faith during my college years, finding my way back through the Jesus movement of the 1970's. My faith has been a guiding force all my life (except for those college years) and I've found regular prayer and meditation to be indispensable in keeping myself on track.
After earning a B.A. in theology I taught high school religion classes for twenty years. I first began introducing adolescents to meditation in my class on spirituality. I've written high school curriculum and three books, and have presented at faith-based, private and public education conferences across the U.S. and in Canada.
I earned an M.A. in Holistic Health Studies after developing an interest in the mind/body/spirit connection. I participated in a yearlong training course with Mindful Schools in Oakland, CA, and have adapted some of the secular mindfulness methods I learned there to Christian meditation practice. Meditation classes in the wellness program I developed always had long waiting lists.
I have volunteered at churches, women's shelters and correctional facilities. I'm currently retired from fulltime teaching and am available for presentations and classes in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area.
